Saturday 28th April

The choir were the guests of Newport (Salop) and District Male Voice Choir on Saturday 28th April at a concert held at Burton Borough School, Newport. Also sharing the stage was the Burton Borough Big Band, a talented group of musicians from the school who thoroughly entertained both choirs and audience with their excellent playing. A credit to their leader, Wayne Ruston.

Newport Choir were guests at our Annual Concert in May 2010 at West Bromwich Town Hall, this concert was arranged as a return visit. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, the two choirs blended together superbly for joint items conducted by our own MD, Stephen Allen and Vivian Redfern, Newport’s MD. The finale for the evening was the very popular Back to the Sixties medley.

The choir now look forward to their next concert when we will be guests of Shelfield Male Voice Choir on Saturday 19th May at Walsall Town Hall

Brighton Marathon

The choir would like to congratulate our Musical Director, Stephen Allen and accompanist, Helen Parker, on completing the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April 2012 in 4hours 45 minutes. A superb time for Helen’s first full marathon and a Personal Best for Stephen who has previously taken part in the London Marathon on three occasions. Both Helen and Stephen raised sponsorship for the choir’s 2011/12 nominated charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Cardiac Unit and hope to have raised almost £1,000; well done, we are all very proud of you and were pleased to see you are both still able to walk and are looking forward to your next running challenge.

The choir also send congratulations to Cradley Heath Male Voice Choir on the occasion of their centenary, having being formed in February 1912. It was a privilege to share the stage with them at their celebratory concert at Brierley Hill Civic Hall on Saturday 21st April 2012. A wonderful musical celebration of the choir; a wide variety of music from traditional male voice choir items to classical pieces, jazz, songs from the shows and even a “Take That” number! Well done to Phillipa Brettel, Cradley Health Male Voice Choir and all involved in the concert.

About The Choir

The Warley Male choir was formed in Smethwick in 1943 by a group of Air Raid Wardens who wanted to continue friendships made during the war.  Click here for more details...

Joining The Choir

The choir is always on the lookout for new members...

Can you sing? Or read music? Quite a few choir members couldn’t  when they first joined the choir. It isn’t a prerequisite to be able to  read music (but it helps!).
