CHOIR DEPUTY ACCOMPANIST

hp05050702
Helen Parker

Helen started her musical “career” learning to play the recorder, as many school children do, at the age of 7. She then went on to have piano lessons from about age 9 or 10. When she moved up to senior school, she had the opportunity to learn another instrument, even at that early age, Helen wanted to be different, she didn’t want to play anything “normal” like the violin or flute, the school had a trombone available, and so she agreed to “give it a go!”

25 years + later, Helen is still playing trombone, and is now principal trombone for Langley Band.

Helen is married to Cliff, an accomplished trumpet and cornet player. Cliff is also the Musical Director for the Langley Band.

Helen recently “retired” from organist and choirmaster at Wesley Church in West Bromwich, a post she held for 15 years. Helen remains an active member of the Methodist Church.

When Helen has any free time, she likes to spend it either keeping fit at the local gym or on holiday (the Greek islands are a favourite destination, she is more than happy to recommend her favourites to anyone, she has a particular liking of Ouzo).

In her working life, Helen is a Chartered Financial Planner for an Independent Financial Advice firm in Birmingham City Centre
